Haiti Still Matters: A Contest of Creative Expression and Sustained Dialogue

As the world continues to respond to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, The College at Brockport is seeking creative projects telling us why Haiti still matters.

Acceptable forms of submission include: essays, commercials/PSAs/video skits, dances, poetry, posters, photos, musical performances and other forms of creative expression.

Entries will be showcased at the 10th Annual Diversity Conference in September.

Speaker: Mr. Weston Kennison, Adjunct Lecturer in English at SUNY Geneseo Faculty Fellow for International Programs

He has been to Haiti a couple times along with H.O.P.E. Haiti.

Event Description: “Making Friends in Haiti: There is a growing interest among young people in traveling to sites in the developing world to offer help and to seek knowledge. Such travel can be challenging and, at times, dangerous. One way to promote safety and a more meaningful experience is to form long-term friendships between communities. Within the context of those friendships we can travel more safely, do more good, and do less harm. We also create a grassroots network of relationships that make friendships between nations more possible. This talk explores that process as it applies on the northern peninsula in Haiti.”

Haitian desserts will also be served.
