Travel Clinic

Prior to traveling overseas in one of The College at Brockport’s Overseas Academic Programs, students are required to complete a medical examination. The Student Health Center (SHC) is happy to provide this service for you. Although there is no charge for the “travel physical’ if you have already paid the health fee, some vaccines and medications may have fees. Please schedule this appointment well in advance of your travel dates by calling 395-2414.

Before your travel physical, please:

  • go to www.cdc.gov/travel to review Center for Disease Control recommendations regarding travel to the country that you have chosen to visit.
  • complete the Student Health Information for Study Abroad (found on page 6 in the green packet) and please remember to bring the green packet to your appointment.

The travel physical includes:

  • medical history and physical
  • information on ways to decrease health risks while away, and
  • immunizations and prescriptions tailored to the region you intend to visit. We stock the most commonly needed vaccines and make them available to students “at cost”.

If you are unable to make an appointment at the Health Center, some suggestions for obtaining a travel physical required by the Overseas Academic Programs are:

  • Schedule an appointment with your primary care provider.
  • Passport Health (585) 275-8884 located at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Call to make an appointment.
  • Your county health department at home may have a Travel Clinic. Call to see what services they may have available. Be aware that Monroe County Health Department no longer has a travel clinic.
  • Lakeside Hospital Occupational Health Department: (585) 395-6051.

How exciting that you have the opportunity to study abroad as part of The College at Brockport Overseas Academic Programs! The staff at the Student Health Center looks forward to helping you meet your travel health care needs. Please call 395-2414 to make an appointment.

If you are going to Ghana over winter intercession:

Yellow fever vaccine is required for entry into some countries, including Ghana. The SHC and Passport Health are the only places in Monroe County that are certified by New York State to administer the yellow fever vaccine. During the fall semester, a staff member from SHC will come to your class to discuss ways to stay healthy when you travel. During the month of October, the SHC will schedule a special travel clinic for the students travel cling to Ghana over winter intercession.
