About the Department

As a Health Science major at The College at Brockport you will be encountering some of the most pressing issues of our time. Though the United States clearly outspends all other countries on medical care, it ranks low among nations on many important health indicators. Determinants of health include not only genetics and personal choices, but the impact of the physical and social environments in which we live. In that context, the Department of Health Science is taking an active role in training the leaders of tomorrow to address these very complex and intertwined determinants of health. As a multi-component unit, the department brings together experts with a diverse mix of specialties, including health education/promotion and behavior change, substance abuse counseling, health care administration and public health.

Our faculty expertly guide you as you examine health-related problems in one of four tracks -- the school and community program in health education, alcohol and substance abuse studies program, health care administration, and the liberal arts program in health science. Graduates end up in varied careers including teaching, community education, public administration, and substance abuse treatment. Explore our site to learn how we can help you succeed.
