Sample Four—Year Sequencing of Honors CoursesA minimum of seven Honors courses is required to complete the College Honors Program, the last three of which constitute the Junior/Senior Honors Program. Almost all the Honors courses fulfill a general education requirement. We want students to enroll in at least one Honors course each semester until their senior year, when they would be working on their senior thesis. In almost all cases, the thesis will be an elective in an academic major. Hence, students complete their General Education, graduation and major requirements as they complete their Honors Program. Freshman YearFall: HON 112, Introduction to Honors (fulfills the Humanities requirement in General Education). Spring: One Honors general education requirement (Social Science, Natural Science, US History, Fine Art, or Other World and Western Civilization). Sophomore YearFall: One Honors General Education requirement (same list as above). Spring: One Honors General Education requirement (same list as above). Junior Year(The following courses apply to both the College Honors and the Junior/Senior Honors Programs) Fall: HON Contemporary Issues (select one of four normally scheduled) or HON 395, Junior Colloquium. Spring: HON Contemporary Issues or HON 395. Senior YearFall: HON 490, Senior Honor Thesis. Spring: while no course is required, the thesis must be completed and revised for oral presentation at Scholars Day or another suitable venue. In rare cases, students who have completed their General Education requirements, but not their Honors Program requirements because of prior AP or college credits, can petition to convert either an elective course or a course in their major into an Honors course.
