SUNY Brockport Celebrates Student Success
Honors and Awards Ceremony is a Long-standing Tradition
The SUNY Brockport College community came together April 27 to celebrate student success at the College’s Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony. The long-standing tradition recognizes academic excellence, honoring students for outstanding achievement.
Honorees included senior Sandra Lacea, (pictured with President John R. Halstead) this year’s recipient of the President's Citation , SUNY Brockport's highest award for a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic merit, a strong record of co-curricular activities, significant contributions to SUNY Brockport and community, and evidence of professional promiseFor a full list of this year's honors recipients, see below and the links on the left.

Since 1982, The Honors and Awards Ceremony has recognized thousands of extraordinary students in all academic areas of the college. Each student who has been selected as a collegewide, departmental or program scholar and the students receiving the top three school awards, the Marion Schrank Student Leadership Award and President's Citation is individually honored at this special event. Join us in celebrating our students' success!
On the day of the ceremony, collegewide, departmental and program award recipients (including the Delta College Commendation Award, Delta College Program Scholar, Honors Program Outstanding Senior Award, Honors Program Scholar, Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, Outstanding Adult Student Award, School of Professions Graduate Student Award and Executive Director's Award winners should report to Seymour Union, Room 203, by 2:15 pm.
Students receiving the President's Citation, Marion Schrank Student Leadership Award, School of Arts and Performance Oustanding Scholar Award, School of Letters and Sciences Outstanding Scholar Award and School of Professions Outstanding Scholar Award should report to Room 185 in the Seymour Union no later than 2:30 pm to line up for the procession with the platform party.
We strongly encourage faculty and staff to join us for the ceremony. Faculty and staff wishing to participate and process in academic regalia will need to meet in room 119 of the Seymour Union at 2:15 pm. Those who would like to attend the ceremony but not process can take advantage of our general seating.

Outstanding Achievement Awards
The President's Citation is SUNY Brockport's highest award for a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic merit (a GPA of at least 3.75), a strong record of cocurricular activities, significant contributions to SUNY Brockport and community, and evidence of professional promise.

Sandra Lacea
The Marion Schrank Student Leadership Award is conferred upon an undergraduate student who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership through his/her dedicated commitment to the aims of the College and the organization with which he/she is affiliated. The award is based on scholastic performance, distinguished leadership, and service which has had a significant impact on the College and the community. It honors the service of Marion Schrank, 1969 alumna and vice president for student affairs emeritus, whose 30 year career at Brockport was focused on serving students.

Marisa Ballaro
The School of Arts and Performance Award is presented to a senior with a strong performance element in his/her academic program, who has exhibited outstanding academic achievement and also has provided significant service related directly to his/her department or program.
Jason Torreano
The School of Letters and Sciences Award recognizes a senior or December graduate who has resided at SUNY Brockport for at least three semesters, has completed a School of Letters and Sciences major or will have done so by graduation, has earned a grade point average of at least 3.75, and has made a significant contribution to either the College or the department.

The School of Professions Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence in a program in the School of Professions and who has made significant contributions to the College and/or community through his/her involvement.

Hollee Schwingel
The School of Professions Graduate Student Award recognizes a matriculated student with a minimum GPA of 3.75 who is in a program leading to a master's degree or a certificate of advanced study. The student must demonstrate significant contribution to the profession or to the community in the field of graduate discipline (e.g. scholarly publication and leadership in the field or outstanding clinical performance).

The Delta College Commendation Award recognizes academic excellence, leadership through civic engagement, and seriousness of purpose towards career preparation.
Anastasia Pennington
The Delta College Program Scholar Award recognizes a graduating Delta college student who has earned the highest GPA throughout their participation in the program.
Sarah Hunter
The Honors Program Outstanding Senior Award is presented to a student graduating in either the College Honors Program or the upper-division Honors program at SUNY Brockport. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement combined with a significant record of College and/or community leadership.
Katie Skomra
The Honors Program Scholar recognizes a graduating Honors Program student who has earned the highest GPA in the program.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence recognizes model students who have integrated academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, and who may have already received recognition from the campus, local, state, national, or international organizations. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by SUNY.

The Outstanding Adult Student Awards are presented to three adult students who have been especially successful at combining college studies with their other responsibilities. The awardees also represent the College at a dinner and ceremony sponsored by the Rochester Area Colleges Continuing Education Committee.

The Executive Director’s Award is presented by the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center to a highly motivated student who has exhibited outstanding academic and vocational performance and who is seeking to continue his or her career.
