Programs and Services 2010-2011

CONNECT is funded through a 2009 United States Department of Education High-Risk Drinking Prevention Among College Students Grant Award.

CONNECT is the College at Brockport’s comprehensive high-risk drinking prevention program.  The CONNECT program focuses on 5 major initiatives:

  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Leadership and Student Engagement
  • Environmental Management (Late-Night Alcohol-Free Options)
  • Social Norms Marketing and Curriculum Infusion
Education, Prevention, and Interventions

Concerts, movies, tournaments, parties, games, prizes, food, and fun! The 2010 Late Night with Ellsworth season kicks off during Welcome Weekend with “Party on the Patio” and the 1st Annual College at Brockport Glow Fest!

Did you know that most negative health occurrences take place on Mondays – including deaths, strokes, heart attacks and sick days? It’s time to take back Mondays as a day to celebrate the beginning of a new week and new, healthy habits! Healthy Monday programs include the Monday 2000, Get Movin’ Mondays and Massage Mondays!

Health Promotion and Prevention Services coordinates a number of campus-wide health initiatives each year in conjunction with campus and community partners. Some events for the 2010-2011 academic year include:

  • Health Fairs (September 1, 2010 and April 13, 2010)
  • Set the Trend: Alcohol Awareness Week (September 8-15, 2010)
  • Brockport Cares: Breast Cancer Awareness Days (September 21-23, 2010)
  • 30 Days of Strength (October 1 – 30, 2010)
  • Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes (October 8, 2010)
  • Red Flag Week (October 11 – 14, 2010)
  • Heads Up for Mental Health! (November 8 – 12, 2010)
  • Keep It Sexually Safe (K.I.S.S.) (February 14 – 18, 2010)

EagleCHECK is the signature Health Promotion and Prevention Services program! This interactive program and complimentary print and social marketing campaign ensures that students can:

  • Discuss the roles bystanders play in alcohol poisoning response and sexual assault prevention.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective bystander education skills.
  • Deconstruct myths related to high-risk drinking and sexual assault on college campuses.
  • Think critically about the links between high-risk drinking and sexual assault.
  • Describe services related to alcohol and substance use and sexual assault on and off-campus.

BodyWISE is a comprehensive, holistic healthy lifestyles program for College at Brockport students with a BMI of 30 or greater. BodyWISE participants receive:

  • Weekly individual and group personal training sessions
  • Access to a private gym in Health Promotion and Prevention Services
  • An individual consultation with the College’s Registered Dietician
  • Four educational sessions focused on nutrition, physical activity, stress management and healthy lifestyles in college
  • Individualized health coaching
  • Group activities (hiking, Rochester Public Market, rock climbing, etc.)

BodyWISE is the recipient of a 2008 SUNY Outstanding Student Affairs Award!

Health Promotion and Prevention Services work with community partners to provide free, confidential. Oral-swab HIV testing to students. HIV testing dates for 2010-2011 are:
