Health Insurance After Retirement (General Items of Interest)

  • Health insurance transactions/changes/questions are handled by the Employee Benefits Division in Albany
  • Your health insurance premium will continue to be that of an active employee (depending on the plan an estimated 10% of the total cost for single coverage and 75% of the difference between the total cost for family coverage)
  • Up to 200 sick days will be calculated into a monthly dollar value that is applied against your monthly health insurance premium for life (see Estimating Your Sick Leave Credit)
  • Your health insurance coverage does not diminish after retirement or when you reach age 65
  • You MUST be enrolled in Medicare when you reach age 65, at which point you will be reimbursed for Medicare Part B (see section on Medicare)
