The Use of Amusement Park Rides as Scientific Visualization Educational Exercises

Author: Leigh Little (SUNY Brockport, Department of Computational Science)

Abstract

Scientific visualization is one of the core elements of the computational science curriculum. It is a fairly diverse topic that gets integrated into nearly every course on some level, yet has some specific ideas that are best studied in a dedicated course. One of the main components of the scientific visualization course at SUNY Brockport is animation. Amusement part rides form an excellent mechanism for illustrating various topics in animation. Some previous assignments that have been given in the course will be discussed in addition to future plans for enhancements to this exercise.
