Introducing High-Performance Computing to the Community College

Authors: Matthew Haas, Joe Oppenheim (Corning Community College, Computer & Information Science Department)

Abstract

High-Performance Computing plays everincreasing roles in research as well as industry. Likewise, some traditional curriculums and disciplines are beginning to see the benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration. Overall, however, many educational settings are still in need of a proper introduction as well as exposure to the facts of High-Performance Computing and the benefits of Computational Science.

This paper will detail some of the attempts made to introduce a curriculum in High-Performance Computing at a two year community college, along with how through collaboration outreach can be achieved to high schools, and resource sharing can take place with four-year institutions.
