Located just 45 miles (about 72.4 km) to the west, Buffalo is one of New York State's largest cities. It is home to the National Football League's Buffalo Bills and the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo sits on the shore of Lake Erie and is also home to three other State University of New York (SUNY) institutions -- University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Erie Community College. With its majestic falls, Niagara Falls is a major North American tourist destination. The falls are located approximately 17 miles (about 27.3 km) north of the City of Buffalo and straddle the line between the United States and Canada. Niagara Falls actually consists of two different falls -- the American Falls, which vary between 70 and 100 feet (about 21.3 and 30.5 meters) high, and the larger Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, which are about 170 feet (51.8 meters) high. Syracuse is another major New York State city located within easy driving distance of Brockport. Syracuse is home to Syracuse University, a major U.S. university that is known for its athletic teams. Students often enjoy traveling to Syracuse to watch the "Orange" compete in men's basketball (they were the 2003 men's NCAA basketball champions) or lacrosse (they have taken home numerous national championships throughout the years). Toronto is located just across Lake Ontario and is a mere 2- to 3-hour drive from Rochester and Brockport.
