Quality Improvement Activities

Certain types of research projects do not need to be submitted to IRB for review. These types of projects are Quality Improvement Activities. The Office of Health and Human Services has outlined the parameters of Quality Improvement Activities. Principal investigators should carefully read and understand these parameters before making the determination if their research project constitutes quality improvement. Principal investigators should make the determination whether the project is a quality improvement activity, not the IRB office. Principal investigators should always maintain high ethical standards for all research activities, regardless of the type of research. The attached pdf file should clarify for principal investigators the parameters of quality improvement activities.
