Open Outlook 2003 and you will be prompted to type in a Profile Name. Type your First and Last Name.

The next window you see is the one above. Make sure that the “Add a new e-mail account” button is selected, then click ‘Next’.

Next you will need to select the “IMAP” button, and then click ‘Next’.

Here is where you type in the information for the IMAP server. Under “User Information”, you need to type in your full name and email address. Please note that under email address is the format “NetID@brockport.edu”. In the “Server Information”, type “mail.brockport.edu” for both Incoming and Outgoing mail servers. In the “Logon Information” section type in your password in the “Password:” text field. This is the password associated with your NetID (ie what you use to log into Webmail and Angel). Choosing to remember password or not is up to you.
Click the “More Settings…” button.
In this screen type in “Brockport IMAP” for the Mail Account name and in the “Organization” text field type “The College at Brockport”.

Click on the “Outgoing Server” tab. Check the box that says “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” and make sure the “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” button is selected as well.

Click on the “Advanced” tab. Where it says “Incoming server (IMAP):”, click the check box where it says “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)” Click ‘OK’. Click ‘Next’. Then click ‘Finished’.

Next we will need to set the IMAP Inbox to be your default startup folder. To do this, in the Outlook window, you will need to click ‘Tools’, then click ‘Options’. Note you may have to click the down arrow to see all of the options. The menu you should see after doing this looks as follows:

Click the “Other” tab.
Then under “General” you need to click “Advanced Options”.

Where it says “Startup in this folder:”, next to that there is a button that says “Browse…”. Click the “Browse…” button.

You will need to click the check box next to “Brockport IMAP”, and then choose the “Inbox” that is under there.

Click ‘OK’. Click ‘OK’, then click ‘Apply’. Finally click ‘OK’.
Now we need to set up so when you delete a message, they do not stay in your Inbox with just a horizontal slash (strikethrough) through them. Outlook 2003 does not have a great way to take care of this unfortunately other than these workarounds:
Once that is selected, go to ‘View’ -> ‘Arrange By’ -> ‘Current View’-> ‘Hide Messages Marked for Deletion’. Click on “Hide Messages Marked for Deletion”.

You will need to purge your email as well from time to time. Here is how to make a quick command in the toolbar:
To add the Purge button to the toolbar, on the Tools menu, click ‘Customize’. On the ‘Commands’ tab, under Categories, click ‘Edit’. Under Commands, drag the “Purge Marked Items in Inbox” command to a toolbar.

Now we have to set up a rule so that when you send a message, a copy is also kept on the server, because by default this is not the case. To do this click ‘Tools’ -> ‘Rules and Alerts…’

Click “New Rule”. In the new window choose “Start from a blank rule”, then choose “Check messages after sending”.

Click ‘Next’.

Select the check box that says “through the specified account”. Down at the bottom the word “specified” should be blue. Click and choose “mail.brockport.edu” like shown above.

Choose the check box that says “move a copy to the specified folder”. In the bottom half, “specified” should be blue again. Click it and choose the Sent folder under “mail.brockport.edu”. Click ‘Finished’, ‘Apply’, and then ‘OK’.
You have now configured Outlook 2003 for the new mail system!
