New NetID Password Policy Being Implemented

As part of our ongoing effort to improve information security, the College has recently approved a new NetID password policy. The new policy requires that your Brockport NetID password meet certain criteria, and that the password be changed at least every 6 months.

To be compliant with the new policy, ALL students, faculty and staff of The College at Brockport will need to change their NetID password before 10/14/2009.

You can reset your own NetID password by using the NetID Lookup and Password Change System available on the Online Services page on the Brockport website. If you would like assistance with this, feel free to contact the IT Help Desk at 395-5151.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the new password policy:

Q: Why is the College implementing this password policy?

A: In order to protect College information, computers and networks from unauthorized access, the College must take reasonable steps to ensure that passwords are protected.

Q: What if I do not change my NetID password before 10/14/2009?

A: Your password will expire and you will no longer be able to login to Webmail or ANGEL, or other NetID-based services.

Q: Can I reset my NetID password after it expires?

A: Yes. You can reset your own NetID password by using the NetID Lookup and Password Change System available on the Online Services page on the Brockport website.

Q: Can I change my NetID password now?

A: Yes

Q: If I change my NetID password now, how long will that password work?

A: Six months.

Q: I just changed my password. Will I need to change it again before 10/14/2009?

A: If you have changed your NetID password after 8/19/2009, you are already using a password that meets the new criteria.
