Setting Up a Department Page
This following is intended for SUNY Brockport webmasters. It contains information about setting up a departmental web site, using the server, web design tips, and links to software that may be helpful.
Individual departments and organizations at SUNY College at Brockport are encouraged to create their own Web presence within the Official SUNY College at Brockport Web site.
The first step in the process is to gain approval of the department head before requesting information.
Once approved, fill out the New Department Web Site Sign-up Form or contact the Web Manager at webmaste@po.brockport.edu to request the necessary forms and information.
Faculty and staff within a department should meet to determine what the department's Web site should include. Browse other department pages on the SUNY College at Brockport site as well as other college and university sites to get some ideas. From there, the department should contact Web Services for assistance in creating the Web site.
Creating the actual Web site:
Departments have opted for one of two methods in developing their Web site.
- Contact the Help Desk about having Macromedia Dreamweaver installed on one or more faculty and/or staff's computers to maintain the Web site. From there, the developers contact Web Services to have an account created and configured to connect to the SUNY Brockport Web server, and for an introduction to Dreamweaver.
- Another option is to contact Web Service to schedule a meeting with one of the Technical Assitants. This assitant will develop and/or maintain the Web site for the Department. It is important during development to maintain contact with this assistant to ensure development is to the department's satisfaction. After the Web site has been deployed, it is equally important to maintain contact with an assistant to update content on the page. Web Services does not know the workings of each department and as such cannot create accurate and up-to-date content unless notified by the department.
Once the Web sites have been created they should be presented for approval to Chris Florence, director of Marketing Communications.
