Health Care and Insurance

Student Health Center

The College at Brockport's Student Health Center provides outpatient medical care and educational programming to all registered College at Brockport students. Visits are free for students who have paid the mandatory student health fee.

Office hours are 8 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Monday - Friday and 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday during the academic year. Summer hours vary. After-hours medical care is available at nearby Lakeside Memorial Hospital on a fee-for-service basis.

Please note that dental and eye care is not available at the Student Health Center. As both are quite expensive in the U.S., it is advisable to have a routine examination and any necessary services performed before you arrive. Emergency visits can be arranged if necessary.

Immunizations

New York State Public Health Law requires all students to provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. Other immunizations against infectious diseases, including tetanus, diphtheria, polio, Hepatitis B, and meningitis are strongly recommended. Tuberculosis screening, with mantoux ppd should be done prior to arrival. More information can be found at http://www.brockport.edu/healthctr/immunizations.html

Hospital and Accident Insurance

In accordance with the State University of New York Board of Trustees Resolution passed in June 1985, health insurance is mandatory for all international students and scholars enrolled at SUNY campuses. Health insurance is also mandatory for all American students and scholars traveling abroad on approved SUNY academic programs and exchanges. HTH Worldwide Insurance Services is the designated claims administrator for the SUNY-mandated policy.

International students who have F-1 and J-1 student visa categories and other non-immigrant visa categories are required to enroll in the SUNY-mandated policy. International scholars with J-1 exchange/visitor, researcher, and professor visa categories are also required to enroll in the policy, but are exempt if enrolled in the graduate assistant policy. More information can be found at http://www.brockport.edu/bursar/insurance/intl-stu-ins.htm

If you or your spouse is pregnant and traveling to Brockport, please consult with ISS about insurance coverage before you arrive in the U.S. It is likely that the cost of the delivery and pre/post-natal care will not be covered by the insurance plan.
