Community Development
Mission & Goals

MISSION

The Office of Community Development has as its mission the education of The College at Brockport community through a series of educational and program initiatives developed collaboratively to create opportunities for interaction between students, faculty, staff, and community members. The office aims to foster understanding and collegiality between various constituents within the college community in the spirit of integrity, civility and justice with tolerance and good will.

 

UNIT OVERVIEW

Community Development coordinates inclusive and proactive programs and educational initiatives. The office is a resource center and gathering place for members of The College at Brockport Community as they prepare to fulfill various roles in the greater community. The office is responsible for providing resources related to community service, student organizations and student leader development, student involvement, services/programs for underserved students, and commuter student services.

 

2010 -2011 GOALS

Academic Quality & Engagement           

  • Through collaboration with academic departments, create opportunities to participate in service learning.
  • Promote academic and personal growth of traditionally underrepresented students.


Co-Curricular Programming & Support Services           

  • Establish opportunities for participation in civic engagement/service – Eagle Service Days.
  • Develop a system of communicating the extent to which Brockport students are civically engaged
  • Develop support services for registered student organizations
  • Provide support services for underrepresented students
  • Provide support and assistance necessary for international students to achieve their educational goals and to ensure institutional compliance with governmental immigration regulations
  • Provide opportunities for interested students to pursue spiritual growth and development


Learning Environment & Quality of Place                       

  • Establish a Student Organization Resource space dedicated to providing informal meeting space and resources for student leaders and advisors.


Culture of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement

  • Through collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations, develop opportunities to strengthen alumni traditions and networks.
  • Explore opportunities for further engagement of under-represented alumni

 

2011-2012 STRATEGIC GOALS

Academic Quality & Engagement           

  • Through collaboration with academic departments, create opportunities to participate in service learning
  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with various College departments, students, faculty and staff to ensure that our approach is comprehensive, intentional and effective. (More specifically Academic Affairs and Student Retention).
  • Encourage and support student leadership development through formal and informal opportunities within the residence halls and campus community, including but not limited to Resident Assistants, Night Desk Attendants and Residence Councils.
  • Provide educational purposeful opportunities for students through our graduate assistant and intern opportunities.
