Meet the Alums...

Rebekah Feller, Class of 2013

Rebekah is currently a senior the College at Brockport. She majors in History and Childhood Education 1-6, and students with disabilities 1-6. Rebekah found an interest in the success of college students with autism after being a resident assistant in a freshman dorm for two years. She has found this to be a highly relevant topic in today's higher education and advocates for increased awareness in all areas of higher education.

Kareem Hayes, Class of 2006

Kareem Hayes is a native of Rochester, New York who attended Gates-Chili High School and SUNY Brockport for his undergraduate degree in Communications with a concentration in Broadcasting. Kareem later combined his passion for media in working with youth, which led to earning his Master's degree in Human Development from the University of Rochester. Kareem is currently working with the Rochester City School District in the Office of Parent Engagement and has an educational consulting business named Blueprint Educational Consulting Services.

Jeremy McKenzie, Class of 1997

Jeremy graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1997 with a BS majoring in History and minoring in Military Science. Since graduation he has completed both an MBA from the University of Maryland University College and an MSSc from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. Immediately after graduation Jeremy served as a US Army Officer and Blackhawk pilot. His service included Korea, Bosnia and two tours in Iraq. After the Army Jeremy switched to the USCG where he continues to serve. Jeremy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, two Air Medals and a Meritorious Service Medal.

John Morgan, Class of 2006

John is a 2006 graduate of SUNY Brockport with a BS in Health Science and also received an MS in Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College in 2011. After completion of his graduate degree presentation, he was awarded the Roberts Wesleyan Strategic Excellence award for presenting the best business solution to a mock Board of Directors. He is a professional recruiter who has placed people with many of the most respected organizations in the Rochester area. His professional strengths include talent acquisition and account management. Outside of work, John enjoys working out, playing and watching sports, and spending time with his wife Sarah and their dog Gus.

Henry Padron, Class of 1986

Henry is a longtime community activist for Puerto Rican Rights. His involvement includes the Vieques Defense Committee, Puerto Rican Independence, and Latin issues. As a diasporican he writes poetry about the effect of colonialism on his people. His poetry appears in scholarly journals and anthologies. He is currently writing poems with agricultural workers in the region. Theatre of the Oppressed is one of his passions for bringing forth the voice of the people. He has youth TO with Kindergarten students, youth, and adults to explore oppression in its myriad manifestations.

Allen Plymale, Class of 1990

Mr. Allen Plymale graduated from The College at Brockport in 1990. Allen is a former Brockport Resident Assistant, and ROTC Cadet. He has spent the last 23 years practicing leadership in the US Department of Justice as a Senior Intelligence Analyst and in the US Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. Allen is also active in his community as an Assistant Boy Scoutmaster. Mr. Plymale is married and has three children. He enjoys the outdoors, history, and horses.

Michele Reed, Class of 1991

Michele Reed is employed by the College at Brockport as the Student Conduct Coordinator. Michele enjoys working with students, the college community and the Brockport community to cultivate a safe, healthy and positive environment for everyone. Michele values the "teachable moments" with students and motivates students toward positive growth and change. Michele has a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York College at Oswego. Graduated from the Masters in Counselor Education program with a concentration in College Counseling from the College at Brockport. Doctoral Coursework Completed at OISE/University of Toronto in Higher Education Administration. She has been working at The College Brockport since Sept 2012 but has 17 year experience working in higher education. Thirteen years combined experience working at Monroe Community College and Onondaga Community College.

Elizabeth Reyes, Class of 2005

As a native of Rochester, NY, Elizabeth attended Rochester City Schools, graduating from East High School in 1990. At the age of 21 she went to college, starting at MCC and then transferring over to Brockport, where she received a Bachelors in Social Work. She was then accepted into the Advanced Standing Program at the University of Buffalo, where she received a Masters in Social Work. Before graduating from UB, Elizabeth signed my contract with the Rochester City School District where she began her career as a Social Worker in 1998. After 12 years as a School Social Worker, she was promoted to Associate Director of the Homeless Education Program and is in her third year in the position.

Andrew Russo, Class of 1993

Andrew received his BS in political science in 1993. He studied abroad at Brunel University in 1990 and served as BSG president from 1993-1994. He have been employed by JPMorgan Chase for 16 years. He went through their year long Leadership Development Program from 1999-2000. He currently holds a senior sales position in JPMC's mortgage business. He has held this position for the last 11 years which has provided him with a unique perspective on the dramatic economic impact of the housing/banking meltdown of 2008, and it's slow recovery sine then. By working for the nation's largest and well respected finance company he brings a different background to the days proceedings. He is active in his community efforts most noticeably working with incarcerated men struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

Micheal Thayer, Class of 2009

As a 2009 graduate from The College at Brockport with a degree in Broadcast Communications and a minor in Coaching Athletics, Michael quickly found his calling in something other than his major. Fulfilling a requirement for his minor, Michael became a football coach at Brockport Central Schools - where he still remains today. He quickly decided to return to school to obtain his teaching certification and follow that path. Now, he is a teacher in the district, coaches three sports and strives to be involved in as much as possible to give back to the district that has given him so much. Furthermore, he is the founder and Operations Manager (President) of Season Never Ends Lacrosse, an organization providing off-season lacrosse play for 7-12 grade students of the Brockport Central School District. He leads by example every day in practice (football, basketball, lacrosse) and is teaching athletes not just about being better at the game they love, but also to be better citizens and contributing members of the school, team and community that they represent each time they pull on a jersey.

Devon Thomas, Class of 2012

Devon is the Graduate Assistant for Leadership Programs at the University of Arizona. She oversees admissions for the Arizona Blue Chip Program, and teaches courses in the Minor for Leadership Studies and Practice. She earned her B.S. in Psychology at The College at Brockport and is currently earning her Masters in Higher Education at the University of Arizona.

Jason Torreano, Class of 2007

Jason Torreano is the Founder and Executive Director of Inkululeko. Torreano attended Rhodes University in 2006 and fell in love with Grahamstown, South Africa. What began as a six-month study abroad program turned into a two-year experience volunteering at Amasango School for Street Children and at Nathaniel Nyaluza High School. Upon returning to the United States, Torreano worked as an anchor and reporter in newsrooms across the country. In 2009, Torreano left news for the non-profit sector. He has returned to South Africa nearly a dozen times size 2006 and has begun laying the groundwork for Inkululeko. In 2010, Torreano collaborated with the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to bring a group of students to Grahamstown, South Africa and has worked extensively with Syracuse University to get Inkululeko off the ground. Torreano received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Brockport and is completing his graduate degree, focusing on non-profit management and international development, through SUNY Empire State College. Torreano, and the Inkululeko team in South Africa and the United States credit the many bright, motivated, dedicated students in Grahamstown as the driving force that propels Inkululeko.

Miranda Wilcox, Class of 2011

Miranda Wilcox, after 20 years of work in the fields of communication and human resources, launched the personal development firm Thrive. Providing coaching and facilitation to individuals and groups, Thrive balances commissioned client work with pro bono services. An active supporter of women and youth, Miranda mentors women in need, coaches boys soccer, serves on the Visitor Experience Committee for the Seneca Park Zoo and was recently nominated for the Rochester Women’s Network Board of Directors. She holds a B.S. in Communication from RIT, an M.A. in Liberal Studies from SUNY Brockport and is a certified leadership coach.

Cory Wright, Class of 1994

Cory is an expert in the field of “Creativity” with over a decade of experience helping organizations maximize creative potential for greater performance. He is a Senior partner at ZIDEAS Creativity and Innovation Group, supporting author of the book “Creative Leadership: Skills that drive change – case section and a speaker at national and international conferences. His workshops and speaking engagements are highly regarded for their rich content and effectiveness. Some local clients include Xerox, M&T Bank, City of Rochester, and PATEC.
