Admission to the Program
Admission to graduate study at The College at Brockport is based on the academic
and personal qualifications of applicants without regard to race/ethnicity,
age, gender, sexual orientation, religions, national origin, marital status,
or status as a Vietnam-era or disabled veteran.
The selection process identifies students whose academic ability, past
performance, and motivation indicate the potential for success in graduate-
level studies at The College at Brockport.
Matriculated graduate students are those who have been admitted to a
program of study leading to a master's degree or a Certificate of Advanced
Study. The College at Brockport assigns each matriculated student an advisor from
the department offering the degree to assist the student in designing
a Plan of Study that addresses the student's own academic goals and meets
program requirements.
Final responsibility for meeting all graduate requirements, however,
remains with the student. A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) undergraduate grade point
average in the undergraduate major and in the total undergraduate degree
program is required for regular admission (matriculation) into the Master
of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies program.
Students failing to meet this standard are required to complete six to
nine credits of 500 level or above required courses on a non-matriculated
basis. If a minimum GPA of 3.0 is met, then the applicant will be considered
for regular admission/matriculation.
Applicants without undergraduate degrees in recreation and leisure studies
may be required to complete baccalaureate-level prerequisite course work
in recreation and leisure studies to qualify for admission. All applicants
must submit three letters of recommendation and complete a critical analysis
writing exercise that determines writing competence in order to be considered
for admission into the program.
