Rick Hardy is a lecturer in the department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. Here at Brockport Mr. Hardy currently teaches undergraduate level courses in International Tourism & Resort Operations and graduate level courses in Philosophy of Recreation & Research Methods.
After spending nearly 10 years in the restaurant industry, he decided to go back to school in 1990. He attended North Carolina State University where he received both a B.S. degree (1993) and M.S. degree (1995) in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management while also working as a research assistant in the Office of Park and Tourism Research. Mr. Hardy then traveled northwest from North Carolina to Illinois and received a M.S. degree (1997) in Advertising from the University of Illinois.
While working with Bayer Pharmaceuticals in their Information Services department in 2000, he was given the opportunity to teach at North Carolina Central University. Mr. Hardy fell in love with the students, the teaching, and the University. He has taught at the university level at North Carolina Central, North Carolina State and East Carolina universities.
Currently he is working on his dissertation for his Ph.D. in Tourism Development and Policy at North Carolina State University. His research interests include destination image development, community development, water based, cultural and sports tourism.
