Recreation and Leisure Studies
Therapeutic Recreation Concentration for the Graduate Program
The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) concentration provides graduate students with academic courses and field and research experiences that meet the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) standards. However, there is additional elective course work that may be necessary to be able to sit for the national certification examination such as anatomy and physiology, abnormal psychology and developmental psychology. Students are prepared to address the recreation and leisure needs of those with disabilities from a life course, developmental perspective. The College at Brockport´s TR graduates have filled rewarding positions in hospitals and clinical settings, adult retirement communities, camps for individuals with physical and mental illnesses, and other similar service facilities.
