Dr. Michael A. Maggiotto
Michael A.Maggiotto received his PhD in Political Science
from Indiana University in 1977. Before coming to SUNY Brockport as dean
of the School of Letters and Sciences in 1999, he was professor and chair
of the Department of Political Science and associate dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences at Bowling Green State University (OH). Previously,
he taught at the University of Florida and University of South Carolina.
Maggiotto has served as deputy director for research at BGSU's Center
for Governmental Research and Public Service, executive director and treasurer
of the Southern Political Science Association, co-editor of the American
Review of Politics, and assistant managing editor of the Journal
of Politics.
Professor Maggiotto's research and teaching interests lie broadly within American politics and more specifically in the study of political parties and elections, political cognitions and behavior, representation, and public policy. He is the author or editor of five books and journal symposia, 29 articles and chapters, and four dozen scholarly papers, reviews and technical reports. His latest book, Partisan Linkages in Southern Politics: Elites, Voters and Identifiers, was published by the University of Tennessee Press in fall 2000. It received the 2001 V.O. Key Award for the Best Book on Southern Politics from the Southern Political Science Association.
A frequent presenter and discussant at professional meetings, Maggiotto
has also served as a television commentator and an expert witness on elections
in federal and state courts.
