Undergraduate Students
- Your College at Brockport ID card is your Library card. Be sure to bring it with you when you come to the Library.
- You must have a valid College at Brockport ID card in order to borrow materials from Drake Memorial Library. This card can be obtained from BASC (link to BASC).
- If you don't have your College at Brockport ID card with you and you need immediate borrowing privileges, a temporary student library card is available at the Circulation Desk for $2.00. It will see you through the semester. You will need to present legal identification.
- Undergraduate students have a limit of 40 items checked out at any one time.
- You may use and borrow books from any SUNY university, college, or community college library simply by showing your College at Brockport ID card. This "Open Access" program allows you to do research across the State!
Graduate Students
- All undergraduate policies also apply to graduate students.
- Graduate students have a limit of 80 items checked out at any one time.
- You can also get borrowing privileges at most Rochester area academic libraries through the Rochester Regional Library Council. For a complete description, visit the RRLC Access Cards page. Access card applications are available at the Circulation Desk or by clicking here: RRLC Access Card Application. Applications must be turned into the Circulation desk in Drake.
Faculty & Staff
- All undergraduate policies also apply to faculty and staff.
- Both faculty and staff have an academic year loan period and a limit of 100 items. If you wish to keep any items longer, they must be renewed.
- Faculty can get borrowing privileges at most Rochester area academic libraries through the Rochester Regional Library Council. For a complete description, visit the RRLC Access Cards page. Access card applications are available at the Circulation Desk or by clicking here: RRLC Access Card Application. Applications must be turned into the Circulation desk in Drake.
Courtesy Cards: Community Members & Alumni
- Residents of the counties of Monroe, Orleans, or Genesee are eligible for a Library Courtesy card. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with legal ID and proof of residency. There is an annual fee of $25.00, renewable August 1 of each year.
- Alumni are eligible for a Library Courtesy Card at no charge.
- Library Courtesy cardholders have a limit of 20 items checked out at any one time.
- Courtesy cards issued by Drake Memorial Library are for use only at Drake Library. Courtesy card users are subject to all rules and regulations pertaining to the use of library materials, including those relating to recalled books, overdue fines and charges for lost materials. Borrowers who do not pay such fines and charges will be blocked from further circulation privileges until such fines are paid.
- Residents of New York State have access to Novel New York, the New York Public Library or the New York State Library.
- Alumni are also eligible for remote access to selected databases through Banner by contacting the Office of Alumni Relations. For more information, please visit http://www.brockport.edu/alumni/library_services
- These privileges do not extend to other Library services such as printing and remote access to licensed bibliographic databases. You may visit your local public library for these services.
Students, Faculty and Staff from other SUNY institutions:
- Through the SUNY Open Access program, you are eligible to borrow materials from Drake Memorial Library.
- Your SUNY ID card is your Library card.
- You must present your SUNY ID card along with proof of current registration.
- These privileges do not extend to other Library services such as printing and remote access to our licensed bibliographic databases.
RRLC "Access Card" holders:
- Our Library honors the RRLC Access card.
- Your RRLC Access card is your Library card.
- You will need to present your RRLC Access card along with legal ID.
- These privileges do not extend to other Library services such as printing and remote access to our licensed bibliographic databases.
Loan Periods and Renewals
Loan periods vary. Always check the due date on the item.

Holds
- If an item is checked out, placing a hold ensures that you will get the item before it is put back on the shelf.
- Holds can be placed online, in person, or by phone at (585) 395-2277
- If an item is needed before its due date, it may be obtained through Interlibrary Loan.
Recalls
- When a patron has an item that is needed back in the Library before its due date, the Library reserves the right to recall (or request return) of the item.
- Patrons will be notified via phone, email, and/or USPS in the event of a recall.
- A new due date will be given for the item.
- If a recalled book is not returned by this date, fines of $1.00 per day will accrue.
Fines & Penalties
- For overdue fines, please see the above table.
- Lost book charges: The price of the book as established in "Books in Print" or a default price based on average replacement cost as determined by the Library. A non-refundable $25.00 processing fee is added to all replacement costs.
- Recall charges: $1.00 per day, to a maximum of $15.00.
- Collection Agency: The Library participates in the College's Collection Agency procedures. If an account is turned over to the Collection Agency, the patron will be responsible for all additional fees and penalties added by the Agency.
Missing Book Search
- If you are unable to find an item that the Drake Library Catalog says is "Available", please ask for a Trace Card at the Circulation Desk or fill out the online form here. We will search for the item, and notify you when we have found it.
Returning Items
- All media (videos, cassettes, etc.) should be returned directly to the Circulation/Reserves desk or the Media drop-box at the Library’s ground floor stairwell entrance directly across from the Allen Administration Building.
- Reserve materials should be handed to a Circulation/Reserves desk worker so the materials can be checked in immediately.
- Circulating books can be returned to book drops in the following locations:
- Circulation Desk at Drake Memorial Library
- Outside book drops at : (1) the front entrance to the Library; (2) the east ground level Commuter Lot entrance, and (3) on the west side of the Library on the ground level (across from the Allen Administration Building)
- The College at Brockport MetroCenter
- Receipts for returns are issued upon request if items are returned directly to the Circulation Desk.

**Books may be sent at lower cost by requesting "Media Mail" at the Post Office.**
Responsibility for Library Materials
- Patrons are responsible for all materials borrowed with their ID card. We do not honor cards presented by anyone other than the patron whose name appears on the card, unless previous proxy borrowing privileges have been established.
- Report lost or stolen ID cards to the Library and to the University Police office.
Transparencies
- Are available from the Circulation Desk for $.30 per plastic sheet, plus the $.10 photocopy charge ($.40 total). Only transparencies purchased from the Circulation Desk may be used in library photocopiers. Others tend to melt and damage our machines.
