Fall 2008
Suggestion: Put a door at the south end of the library.
Response: Due to the need for security and the lack of staff resources, we cannot at this time put a public door at the south end of the library.
Suggestion: Is there any hope of restoring the book return dropbox in the Student Union?
Response: The book drop was removed for a variety of reasons, most significantly among them a lack of transport for the library materials placed in the book drop and the frequent use of the book drop as a garbage disposal. It is not likely that we could replace this service in the foreseeable future.
Spring 2008
Suggestion: Add Tombstone, the movie, to your collection. It would be beneficial in understanding western U.S. societies and the development of a law system.
Response: That's a very good suggestion. We'll pass it on to the collection development librarian.
Spring 2007
Suggestion: Have an area, or book return, for commuters so they can drive through and return books.
Response: Although it is too late to do anything about it this semester, we will keep it in mind as our planning and construction projects continue.
Fall Semester 2007
Suggestion: I was surprised that the library doesn't have the third part of The Matrix trilogy. If I remember correctly, some time ago the library owned a VHS copy of the Matrix and a DVD copy of The Matrix Reloaded. Now, the first part can also be found in the DVD format, but the third is still not there. It is surprising that you would buy a second copy of the first part (though having ot on DVD is a good idea, since here VHS is much less common) and still not buy the third one. It would be very nice if this great/influential movie trilogy was complete, or even if you don't consider it as a trilogy, it would be nice to have the 3rd movie (The Matrix Revolutions) available to students for watching it separately of the other two.
And actually, it would be even nicer if you buy "The Animatrix" too, which makes a very nice addition/completion of this story/world.

Response: Thank you for your request. We will order both of them. We appreciate your using the Comments & Suggestions link and if you would, encourage your classmates to do the same. We are always looking for ways to improve the library.
Suggestion: Why have the "viewing rooms" been moved to the first floor?
I do not like always having to use headphones to watch films,
it's kind of annoying.
Are there still any viewing rooms upstairs?
Response: Thank you for your suggestion regarding viewing rooms in Drake Library. For fall semester, one of the large screen TVs has been moved to a new location in the first door on the right at the bottom of the main staircase (old copy center). Headphones are still available if you are interested.
Suggestion: The library is too noisy, i noticed more people come here to socialize and talk as opposed to study. I feel there should be more monitors to reinforce quiet rules. For example people in the study rooms are on the cell phones and are plain inconsiderate of who is next door to them. I need to be able to come here and study when my dorm is noisy which it is most of the time.
Response: Thank you for your comments regarding noise in Drake Library. We are acutely aware that noise is a problem in Drake, particularly due to roof construction this semester.
Three initiatives we are working on this year include:
- We will be posting a library cell phone policy shortly inviting cell phone users to use the stairwells and other locations to minimize distraction to others;
- Some areas of the library on the main and top floors are receiving acoustical treatment (suspended ceilings) to cut down on noise;
- We are also working toward creating a quiet study space on the ground floor (in the Juvenile section).
