Bulletin 4: Outlook Web App - Spell Check

NOTE: Functionality of spell check facilities in Outlook Web App varies depending on which browser you are using:

• To check spelling on a message you are composing, click the spell check button on the toolbar:
• If you click the small triangle next to the spell check icon, you may specify a language other than English for the spell check.
• Right-clicking on any words marked by the spell check will present a menu of suggested replacements. Selecting one will replace that word in the text. You may also tell the spell checker to ignore that word.
• You can set Outlook Web App to always spell check each message before sending by clicking on the “options…” link at the right of the screen, then selecting “show all options” from the menu that drops down. Then, click “Settings” from the left side of the resulting window, and finally, click “spell check”. There, you can select various options and then click the “save” link.
• There is no ability to add words to the Dictionary.

• Spell check is turned on for the browser by default, and will mark suspect words with a hatched or wavy red underline.
• If spell check is not on, please call the help desk for assistance, as the exact procedure depends on the browser and version.
• You may right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac) the suspect word to see the suggested replacements. Selecting one of the suggestions will replace the text in the email. You may also add the word to the dictionary (in Safari this is called “Learn Spelling”), and in Safari you can also choose to ignore that word in the future.
• There is no spell check button on the toolbar, and no spell check settings in the options menu.
