Sophos Home Support Information

Beginning on 8/1/2013, the Sophos update server will no longer be available for home use. This means that if people continue to use Sophos for personal computers, antivirus definitions will soon be out-of-date and their personal computer will be vulnerable.

What to do

Uninstall Sophos (Instructions below) and see Anti Virus Software

Uninstall Sophos: Instructions

Windows XP

To complete Sophos uninstall follow both sets of directions below.

Sophos AutoUpdate Uninstall

1. Open 'Control Panel' (Start Menu –> Control Panel).

2. Select 'Add or Remove Programs'.

3. Select 'Sophos AutoUpdate', click 'Remove'

4. Prompt will ask if you are sure you would like to remove the software, select 'Yes'

5. Windows will then configure/uninstall the software. Sophos autoupdate will no longer appear in 'Add/Remove Programs'.

Sophos AntiVirus Uninstall

1. Open 'Control Panel' (Start Menu –> Control Panel).

2. Select 'Add or Remove Programs'.

3. Select 'Sophos Anti-Virus', click 'Remove'

4. Prompt will ask if you are sure you would like to remove the software, select 'Yes'

5. Windows will then configure/uninstall the software. During the configuration you will begin to see 'warning flags' appear on the Taskbar. These warnings are to make you aware there is no longer Antivirus software on your PC, see 'Anti Virus Software' link above for more information.

6. If prompted to restart your computer please do so. Although Sophos Antivirus is no longer listed in 'Add/Remove Programs' it is not fully uninstalled until after you reboot.

Windows 7 or Windows Vista

To complete Sophos uninstall follow both sets of directions below.

Sophos AutoUpdate Uninstall

1. Open 'Control Panel' (Start Menu –> Control Panel).

2. In 'Category' view select 'Uninstall a program' listed under 'Programs'

3. Select 'Sophos AutoUpdate', click 'Uninstall'

4. 'Are you sure you want to uninstall AutoUpdate'. Select yes.

5. The dialogue window 'Preparing to Remove' will appear, and you will then be prompted with 'Would you like to allow this program to make changes to your computer' select “Yes”.

6. It will then go through the configuration and AutoUpdate should no longer appear in the Program list.

Sophos AntiVirus Uninstall

1. Open 'Control Panel' (Start Menu –> Control Panel).

2. In 'Category' view select 'Uninstall a program' listed under 'Programs'

3. Select 'Sophos Anti-Virus', click 'Uninstall'

4. 'Are you sure you want to uninstall Anti-Virus'. Select yes.

7. If prompted to restart your computer please do so. Notice the Sophos Antivirus will still be listed in active Programs on your PC until following restart
