iCloud - Restore from Backup

Overview

This documentation provides the steps to restore you iPad from an iCloud back-up. This will provide the proper steps to recover lost settings after an OS upgrade, or a reset.

Note: any OS upgrades from iOS 6 and above will no longer require a restore as your settings will remain on your device during upgrade. An upgrade from iOS 4 will require a restore as it completely wipes the device of all settings during the upgrade

iOS restore

1) After a reset you will get an iPad setup screen. Slide the bar at the bottom to the right.

2) Tap a wireless connection to connect to and tap “Next”

3) Tap “Enable Location Services” and then tap “Next”

4) Tap “Restore from iCloud Backup” and then tap “Next”

5) Enter your Apple ID and Password in the fields provided and tap “Next”

6) Once you have read and agree to the “Terms and Conditions” tap “Agree”

7) Tap “Agree” in window prompt.

8) Tap the latest Backup for your iPad (most recent date and time), and tap “Restore”. It will then begin to Restore from Backup.

9) A page that states “Restoring from back-up, slide to unlock” will show, please slide to unlock. Then Tap “Ok” on this prompt.

10) If you would like to re-set up your Passcode tap “Continue” otherwise tap “later”. Your iPad has now been restored and you will begin to see your purchased apps installing.

Additional Settings

Overview

This section will cover settings not covered by iCloud backup.

Setting default Calendar Account

Following an iCloud restore the default calendar is automatically set to your local calendar (On My iPad Calendar). When a new calendar event is made it will auto post to the local calendar, and not to the exchange calendar. To set the exchange/Brockport calendar as default follow the directions below

1. Tap Settings

2. Tap 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' in list.

3. Scroll down to 'Calendars' and tap 'Default Calendar'

4. Tap the Exchange Calendar and a check mark should appear to the right. Exchange calendar is now default. Close Settings App.

Calendar an event will post to can be set manually as well - see directions below

1. Open Calendar App

2. Tap new event '+' in bottom right corner.

3. Tap Calendar option

4. Tap Calendar to post event to and a check mark should appear on the right of Calendar name.

5. Tap 'Done' and then review your Event and tap 'Done'. The current event will now post to Calendar specified.

Setting default Mail Account

Following an iCloud restore the default Mail account may not be set to preferred mail account. To set user preferred mail account as default follow the directions below

1. Tap Settings

2. Tap 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' in list.

3. Scroll down to 'Mail' and tap 'Default Account'

4. Tap the desired Mail account and a check mark should appear to the right. This account is now default. Close Settings App.

Email account can be set manually as well while sending a message - see directions below

1. Open the Mail app

2. Tap new message icon in top right corner.

3. Tap the 'From' Account twice

4. Tap desired account and a check mark should appear to the right.

5. Edit email as desired and send.

Setting default Contacts Account

Following an iCloud restore the default Contacts account may not be set to preferred Contacts account. To set user preferred Contacts account as default follow the directions below

1. Tap Settings

2. Tap 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' in list.

3. Tap 'Default Account'

4. Tap the desired account and a check mark should appear to the right. This account is now default. Close Settings App.
