Wireless Network Upgrade

Major wireless network upgrades on the way!

The College at Brockport's wireless network will be undergoing some major upgrades in the coming semesters.  Wireless network usage and the number of wireless devices have grown significantly and we expect that trend to continue.  In the fall we added additional wireless controllers to assist with the large increase in wireless logins.  This was only the beginning of the improvements we are making.  To assure the College is positioned well for the future we have begun a comprehensive network upgrade project.  This project is currently underway and will happen in two phases.

Phase One

  1. Upgrade core network infrastructure
  2. Replace current WiFi access points with 802.11ac technology
  3. Inprove logon experience and access
  4. Monitor upgrades

Phase Two

  1. Determine locations on Campus that require additional bandwidth and coverage
  2. Extend/Expand WiFi coverage to dead zones on campus
  3. Determine future Wireless needs and adapt

What can we do with an upgraded network?

  • Connect more devices
  • Better wireless speed and coverage
  • And more ...
