Brockport Global Village

The Brockport Global Village (BGV) is designed for freshmen and transfer students with less than 25 credits, with an interest in international and intercultural issues.

You will work closely with faculty members who teach classes in related disciplines and participate in a wide range of internationally focused events including festivals, performing arts events and off-campus visits to the public market, museums and restaurants. You will arrive on campus before other first-year students to meet other members of the BGV and to help plan our activities.

"The Brockport Global Village has been a great way to meet people from different cultural backgrounds. It has broadened my views and knowledge of the world, just by interacting with the people around me."

- Colleen Holcomb

Students with international travel experience and those who are just interested in international culture share and live in the BGV’s active community, providing opportunities for dynamic intellectual exploration and exchange. You will participate in educational events and activities in a residence hall atmosphere that nurtures cross-cultural relationships, adventurous spirits and open minds.

Dancers from Bollywood DanceMania at the India Community Center, in Macedon, NY. Dr. Jose Maliekal, who teaches Earth Sciences here at Brockport, has an integral role in sustaining the India Community Center. Our students had a great time learning about the different regions of India and the influence Indian music on world culture.

Part of India month, students attended a program where they received Henna tatoos. Henna is an artform that utilizes a temporary dye to leave a "stain" on the skin. Tattoos last up to two weeks. Our Henna artist brought design books and created beautifully crafted tatoos for all who attended.
