Why did you choose to work in Residential Life?

Like a lot of people in the field, I started as an RA.  After spending my last year of undergrad as an assistant hall director, and knowing I didn’t want to teach or work at a newspaper, I decided to go into higher education.  In grad school I tried different things like campus-wide programming, academic advisement, and then decided to come back to res life because of my passion for Living Learning Communities.

What do you love about Brockport?

Truthfully, it’s the students.  In the LLCs, we get really great ones – they are engaged, involved, and I love helping them grow as students and individuals.

What's the best part of your job?

Mentoring students and working with staff to provide great opportunities.

What do you like to do for fun?

I like to cook, I try to stay active, and I watch a lot of TV…a few of my favorites: How I Met Your Mother, Burn Notice, NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and Glee.

Advice for first year students:

Join something! (Like a Living Learning Community)  Get to know your RA because they are great resources and want to help you through your first year.  Attend as many programs and school-sponsored activities as you can…after all, you pay for them.  Just don’t forget to go to class too.

Most memorable programs at Brockport:

We went to a Body Worlds exhibit in 2009 and Rock Climbing in 2010 and to see the Lion King in 2011…those were all pretty cool events sponsored by LLCs. For on campus activities, I like Salsa Nights and a lot of the Late Night with Ellsworth programs - like Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader with the ToT!

Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. ~Mark Twain

If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all. ~Anna Quindlen

Every day may not be good...but there's something good in every day. ~Unknown
