Green House

The Green House is designed for freshmen and transfer students with less than 25 credits who are interested in environmental initiatives, sustainability and making a difference locally and globally. In a residence hall atmosphere that is focused on achievement and success, you will have frequent interactions with faculty and staff, as well as opportunities to make environmental improvements on campus and in the community.

Students in the Green House toured the Western New York Energy plant in Medina, where they turn corn into ethanol.

The Green House students will be learning how to make the campus and their communities a bit more environmentally sustainable. They also live in Thompson Hall, which will be applying for LEED Silver certification. For more infomation on LEED standards, visit www.usgbc.org/leed.

The Green House will help you see the world in a new light. You'll learn about current initiatives on campus, and be able to make a difference through service and educating others. Members arrive on campus two days before other first-year students to meet other members and to initiate the community’s activities.

Students will be enrolled in ENV 201 or 202, depending on their major. The class activities overlap with the activities in the LLC. This three-credit course fulfills a General Education or Major-specific requirement for most students.

As this community grows, we hope to work on long-term projects like planting a community garden. Any student in this community is able to propose a project idea!
