Take advantage of all opportunities that you can, you can't re-do freshman year so make the most of it! Specifically for TOT: Get involved in everything you can education related, you are going to need the experience when you apply to the program in a year. Become very involved in Teachers of Tomorrow events, and build relationships with your peers, you are going to be working with them for the next four years. Get to know the faculty as well, it will make a big difference your overall experience at Brockport.

Tip for LLC Student/First Year Student:

  • Get to know the people you live with, you will be spending a lot of time with each other. 
  • Just because someone doesn't have the same major as you, doesn't mean you won't get along, I was friends with a groups of dance majors and I'm a Psych major.
  • Get as involved in the LLC aws possible, it's fun and a great way to meet people.  Even if you have gone to the three mandatory events, keep going to them.

Tip for LLC Student/First Year

1. Ask Questions
2. Find friends/mentors in the same major as you, 1 or 2 years older
3. Join a club right away
4. Take advantage of the services our campus offers (i.e. student learning center, health center, recreational services)
5. Try something new
6. Go to late night with Ellsworth
7. Participate in online surveys sent to you via email so your voice is heard!
8. Try a BASC or Library Focus Group
9. Go to the programs in your residence halls, that is one of the best ways to make friends and enjoy time :)

It's all up to you now! Your parents aren't going to remind you to write that lab report that's due soon, so managing your time is a biggie! Making Smart Choices is very important!  Don’t be afraid to study on Friday & Saturday nights!

A couple important tips to new students would be to attend the LLC programs because it’s a great way to meet your friends and sometimes even your teachers. Also, take your classes very seriously your freshman year, it’ll pay off down the road!
