LLC Peer Mentors

Josh Swanson (Lead Mentor and MSLC Upperclass)

Major: Double Math and Computer Science
Hometown: Hamlin, NY
Email: jswan2@brockport.edu
Year: Senior

Survival Tip:
Bring a doorstop.  Keep your door open when your there, it’s a great way to meet people.  It’s a lot less intimidating walking into a room and saying “Hi” than it is to knock on a closed door.

Josh

Aly Hoeher

Aly Hoeher (MSLC Upperclass)

Major: Geology, Minor: Chemistry
Hometown: Middleburgh, NY
Email: ahoeh1@brockport.edu
Year: Junior

Survival Tip:
Getting involved in campus is a very good idea, but don't try to do too much all at once. Make sure you leave some time just for yourself to relax or hang out with friends.

Damiene Denner (MSLC First Years)

Major: Biology Minors: Chemistry and Psychology
Hometown: Williamson, NY
Email: ddenn1@brockport.edu
Year: Junior

Survival Tip:
Check your email. Often. You get a lot of information sent to you through email and it's easy to let it pile up then just delete it. Don't do that. Through email you get scholarship and class information, things with deadlines and most importantly whether or not your class is cancelled. You'd much rather check your email instead of trudging to class at 8am just to find out that class was cancelled at 6am. When you write an email, make sure it's professional. Use correct grammar and capitalize where appropriate. You're in college, your emails should reflect that.

Damiene

Garrett Roe

Take advantage of every opportunity given to you! It may lead to something spectacular. But you will not know until you try.  Learn to organize, plan, and  balance your life and you will go far here as well as later on in life. Work hard then play hard! ENJOY The College at Brockport!

Ian

Ian Heckman (Creative Artists)

Major: Dance and Philosophy
Hometown: Allentown, PA
Email: iheck1@brockport.edu
Year: Sophomore

Survival Tip:
Make sure you leave yourself time to relax and recharge. Don't run yourself ragged to get a paper done or to study for a test. You're going to learn nothing and papers you write will not be good if you don't take regular breaks to let yourself process everything away from the paper and books themselves.

Stay involved, create relationships and don't be afraid to ask! There is so much more to college than academics. Staying involved and creating relationships are what really makes your college experience unique. For me, those relationships with friends as well as professors and employers are what have made my first year at Brockport so great!
