Math & Science

The MSLC promotes career exploration through trips to a variety of local museums and research centers, giving students a chance to discover new pathways to success.

In a residence hall atmosphere that is focused on achievement and success, you will receive academic support from faculty as well as junior and senior science and math majors. You and other MSLC students will arrive on campus two days before other first-year students to meet other members and to initiate the activities of the community. In addition to living in a renovated corridor-style freshmen residence hall, living learning community members will have opportunities to develop relationships with science and math faculty outside the context of the classroom.

A bonus of this community...you have a math study lounge in your building with a dedicated graduate math student to help with your more difficult coursework.

The Math & Science Learning Community (MSLC) is designed for freshmen and transfer students with less than 25 credits who are interested in studying:
  • Biological Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Computational Science
  • Computer Information Systems
  • Computer Science
  • Earth Sciences

"My favorite part of the community is how constructive it is. Without the academically-focused living environment, I would have great difficulty succeeding in my harder classes."

- Molly Stetz

"Having study groups with people that I’m close to really takes the stress away sometimes: we laugh, have fun and are always finding new ways to learn."

- Samantha LeClerc

"It helps so much when you have people taking the same classes as you living right down the hall. You can literally discuss coursework at any time of the day, every day."

- Glenn McKeever

"There is simply no comparison to being immersed in a new, strange environment but still being surrounded by people with similar interests. Knowing that everyone around you is going through the same thing makes the transition into college life so much easier. Without MSLC I know I wouldn't have fallen in love with Brockport as quickly as I did.

This community has become my family and I know that they would support me through thick and thin. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything."

- Damiene Denner
