Ensembles at Brockport

Brockport Music Ensembles

 VOCAL

Chorus (MUS 320.01)

This vocal ensemble is open to Brockport students and community members. Singers rehearse twice weekly and perform standard choral works from many styles and periods. Students can earn 1 credit hour for participation. Contact: Brian Clickner, bclickne@brockport.edu

 Gospel Choir (MUS 322.01)

This ensemble provides a basic history of black American gospel music and its relationship to the contemporary music form, and includes performances of Gospel music. Students can earn 1 credit hour for participation. Contact: Paul Boutte pboutte@brockport.edu

 INSTRUMENTAL

Brockport Symphony Orchestra (MUS 323.04)

This instrumental ensemble is open to Brockport students, faculty and community members with an interest in music. The orchestra performs classics, pops, folk songs, and new tuneful music, and features instrumental and vocal soloists. It rehearses once weekly, and performs several times per year. All instrumentalists are welcome to join the orchestra without auditions.  Clarinet Ensemble (MUS 323.02)

Students in this ensemble play a variety of pieces from a wide range of genres. The ensemble meets once weekly, and students can earn 1 credit hour for participation. Contact Scott Horsington shorsing@brockport.edu.

Jazz Ensemble (MUS 323.02)

The Brockport Jazz Ensemble is a new addition to our list of ensembles, and is open to all students. Students will play selections from standard jazz repertoire as well as new arrangements and will experiment with improvisation. All instruments are welcome, and students can earn 1 credit hour for participation. Contact Karl Stabnau (kstabnau@aol.com) for more information.

Saxophone Ensemble (MUS 323.03)

Students in this ensemble play a variety of pieces from pop chard standards to big band, rhythm, and blues and beyond. The ensemble meets once weekly, and students can earn 1 credit hour for participation. Contact Karl Stabnau (kstabnau@aol.com) for more information.

Xylophone Ensembles (General MUS 323.01 and Advanced MUS 323.05)

Students in this ensemble play a variety of arrangements from world music, popular and classical genres. The general xylophone ensemble is open to Brockport students with an interest in music. The advanced ensemble is by audition only. Both ensembles perform several times per semester, and rehearse once weekly. Students can earn 1 credit hour for each ensemble.
