The College at Brockport Freshmen Arrive Friday - Faculty, Staff and Students do the Heavy Lifting on "Move-in Day"
Brockport, NY – Nearly 1,000 College at Brockport freshmen will move into College residence halls beginning at 9 am, Friday, August 22.
In addition, more than 300 faculty, staff and students will turn out to help with the heavy lifting as part of the “Move-in Day” tradition.
“Move-in Day” began a decade ago when Richard Lair, The College at Brockport director of facilities maintenance, returned from moving his son’s belongings up four flights of stairs at another college. Lair thought it would be a good idea to have College staff on hand to lighten the load. The idea has since become a College at Brockport tradition and this year’s helping hands will include those of President John R. Halstead as well as College vice presidents and staff from both the academic and administrative areas.
New students and their families will be able to take a break from the move-in chores to sample wares and gather information from area vendors, as well as get a bite to eat and a cold drink at the Welcome Fair (9 am – 3 pm), located in the Freshman Quad adjacent to Brockway Hall.
The College’s academic year officially begins on Sunday, August 24 at the Academic Convocation at 3:30 pm, in the Tuttle North GymnasiumJaime Casap ’91, a business operation project manager at Google, Inc. and a member of the Google Apps Team, responsible for promoting Google applications to higher education in North, Central and South America. He holds a bachelor of science in communication and political science from The College at Brockport and a master’s in public administration from Arizona State University.
Casap will address this year’s incoming freshman class, which represents the most academically accomplished class in the College’s history. The freshman class includes 32 students who ranked either first or second in their high school class and have an average high school GPA of 90.9, and average SAT and ACT scores of 1121 and 24, respectively.
Approximately 820 full-time transfer students also will be entering the College, bringing the estimated fall total enrollment to approximately 8,500 students.
