The Krazy Firemen Bring Oom-pah-pah to Brockport
The Krazy Firemen
Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport, State University of New York, will roll out the barrel when they welcome The Krazy Firemen to kick off the 2008–09 Fine Arts season. Rochester’s favorite Oktoberfest band will perform in concert on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 7:30 pm, at Tower Fine Arts Center, 180 Holley Street, Brockport.
With a repertoire of polkas, Viennese waltzes, marches and big band music, the Firemen have been popular with audiences not only in America, but also in Canada and Germany, where they have played on several international tours.
“The College recently reinstated a music minor, and The Krazy Firemen’s performance is a terrific way to introduce students to a specific segment of world music, namely that of Bavaria,” says Stuart Ira Soloway, The College at Brockport’s arts events manager. “But aside from their academic appeal, their overall program promises to be popular with our community audience members.”
But what kind of a name is The Krazy Firemen? According to Dennis Kindred, the band’s manager, the name was not chosen by the band itself, but rather foisted upon them. “The original members of this group, being avid participants in the concert and marching bands for local fire departments, would often get together in smaller groups to play area gigs,” he explained. “When the public asked the name of the group, friends would reply, ‘They're just a bunch of crazy firemen.’ ”
