Amy Bloom to Speak Sept. 10
Amy Bloom
Brockport, NY – Author Amy Bloom will be the first guest of The College at Brockport’s Fall ’08 Writers Forum lecture series, Wednesday, September 10, at 8 pm, in the New York Room, Cooper Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.
Bloom is the author of two novels, two collections of short stories, and a nominee for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her stories have appeared in Best American Short Stories, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards, and numerous anthologies here and abroad. She also has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, the >i>Atlantic Monthly, Vogue, Slate, and Salon, among many other publications. Her first book of nonfiction, Normal: Transsexual CEOs, Crossdressing Cops, and Hermaphrodites with Attitude, is an exploration of the varieties of gender. She teaches at Yale University.
Founded in 1967, the Brockport Writers Forum is recognized as one of the outstanding series of readings in this country. Its guests have included many distinguished poets, writers and critics. In addition to its program of readings, the Writers Forum sponsors residencies, workshops, symposia and festivals… all dedicated to the art of writing.
