President John R. Halstead, PhD and Vice President of Advancement Roxanne Johnston were among the dignitaries attending the inauguration of College at Brockport alumnus John M. Anderson, PhD as the 11th president of Alfred State College of Technology on Thursday, October 16.
A product of SUNY, Anderson earned his AS from Westchester Community College before completing his BA in physics from The College at Brockport in 1974. He then went on to complete an MA in physics from SUNY Geneseo and a PhD in education from Cornell University.
Prior to assuming the presidency at Alfred State in March of this year, Anderson was, since 2004, executive vice president and provost at Hartwick College in Oneonta, where he had also served as interim vice president for student life.
Anderson also had served as vice president of academic affairs at SUNY Institute of Technology (2003-04) and provost and vice president for academic affairs at Alfred State College (1999-2003). During the prior eight years, Anderson held several administrative positions at Alfred State, including vice president for institutional advancement, dean of student development, and vice president for student services.
Between 1975 and 1991, Anderson held several teaching and academic posts at Alfred State College, The College at Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, and two area high schools. He also has worked as a consultant for several entities, including the Middle States Association, NYS Department of Education and the SUNY Delegation to Turkey.
