City School Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard to Address Brockport Business Briefings

Brockport, NYJean-Claude Brizard, superintendent of the Rochester City School District, will be the featured speaker at The College at Brockport’s Business Briefings Speakers Series, at 7:45 am, Thursday, November 13, in the Grand Atrium of the Brockport MetroCenter, 55 St Paul St.

Brizard’s talk, “Preparing Students for the Global Market Place: The Work for K-12 Education,” will focus on efforts the City School District is making to prepare students to succeed in an increasingly global society and economy. The talk is free and open to the public.

Brizard began his 21-year career as an educator and administrator with the New York City Department of Education. Before coming to Rochester, he was Senior Executive for Policy and Sustainability, developing policies related to “portfolio schools” including small schools, career and technical education, gifted and talented programs, and prekindergarten.

Brizard is a graduate of the Superintendents Academy of the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. The 10-month executive management training program prepares top executives from the business, non-profit, military, government and education sectors to lead urban public school systems.

He holds a master’s degree in school administration and supervision from The City College of New York and a master’s degree in science education from Queens College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Queens College. He assumed the duties of Rochester Superintendent of Schools in January.

The College at Brockport Business Briefings Series, hosted by College President John R. Halstead, was established to build a network among leaders from Western New York, Greater Rochester and The College at Brockport to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities facing the region.

Following Brizard’s talk, the Business Briefings series will resume in February.
