The College at Brockport’s student-run, non-commercial radio station, 89.1 “The Point” WBSU-FM, unveiled a new studio at its location in the Seymour College Union. The new 150 sq. ft. studio space can accommodate a host plus several guests in a single studio compared with the two smaller studios previously available.
According to station manager and Department of Communications faculty member Warren Kozireski, the new studio space will be most helpful for broadcasts of the morning “Wake Up” show, (6-9 am), the Sunday evening sports round up “Point After” show, (6-9 pm), other special programming such as election coverage when more than one person is joining in a discussion.
Kozireski also added that the new technology brings WBSU-FM one step closer to broadcasting in high definition (HD).
The studio is named the Warren Kozireski Studio to honor Kozireski's 20+ years of dedicated service to students and the station.
The $35,000 renovation/upgrade includes the addition of a professional-level Wheatstone Evolution 6 Digital Audio Console. The new studio is one of five in the station complex of 16 rooms, located in the Seymour College Union.
Support for the new studio came from the Brockport Student Government and the College's Bernard Lynch WBSU New Initiative Fund.
"The Point" programming includes a mix of new music, Top 40, Alternative, Album Rock, and 70s, 80s, and 90s classics, as well as extensive coverage of local news and sports. The station is annually involved in several fund-raising and public service ventures, including “Coats for Kids,” a clothing drive to benefit the Brockport Clothing Shelf. In addition to over the air broadcasts, “The Point” programming can be streamed from the station’s 891thepoint.com Web site.
The station has been recognized four times by the New York State Broadcasters Association for excellence in broadcasting in competition with other professional stations around the state as well as 12 other national awards since 1988.
Successful alumni continue to represent Brockport in their broadcast related careers in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Reno, Atlanta and Tampa and throughout New York state.
