(l-r) Brockport alum and UEW faculty member Patrick Akuffo, PhD; UEW librarian Valentina Bannerman; and UEW pro-vice chancellor Mawutor Avoke, PhD receive donations of sports equipment, uniforms and books from The College at Brockport
Brockport, NY – Reginald T. Ocansey, PhD, may have retired from the college classroom but The College at Brockport emeritus professor of physical education and sport continues to help students pursue their educational goals.
Thanks to Ocansey’s efforts, students at The University of Education at Winneba (UEW) - Ghana have greater access to textbooks and athletic equipment. Ocansey presented the donation to campus officials in Ghana just before Christmas in a ceremony that took place at the college’s library. UEW faculty, including alumni of the College at Brockport’s physical education and sport program, Patrick Akuffo, PhD, and Harriet Amui, PhD, attended the ceremony.
Ocansey thanked members of The College at Brockport’s Departments of Athletics and Physical Education and Sport and the Drake Memorial library for making substantial contributions of time, books and sports equipment. In particular he cited Debbie Ames of the Drake Memorial Library staff and Philip Livingston of the Department of Athletics who were instrumental in the books and equipment collection process.
“This effort is another step in supporting student success across the seas. Supporting the universities in Ghana with books and equipment goes a long way to support the students in the study abroad programs as well the host university in Ghana,” said Ocansey.
The College at Brockport sponsors a year-long international education program at the University of Ghana – Accra where approximately 20 students study each year. The University of Education at Winneba is located approximately 35 miles southwest of the capital city of Accra.
Ocansey joined the faculty of the College’s Department of Physical Education and Sport in 1989 and retired in 2007.
