Brockport -- For pianist Aaron Goldberg, drummer Ali Jackson, Jr., and bassist Omer Avital and the College at Brockport community, it was all about jazz on Friday, February 6. The trio of accomplished musicians met with students in the morning to talk about the roots of America’s unique contribution to music, then offered insights and playing tips during a master class in the afternoon, and finally dazzled a concert audience with a tight 90 minute set in the evening.
The College’s first Jazz Day was sponsored by the Marc and Ann Iacona family. Iacona, co-producer of the Rochester International Jazz Festival and president of Rochester-based Simcona Electronics Corporation, hopes that the event will become an annual day devoted to jazz education, instruction and performances.
