College at Brockport Projects Substantial Fall 09 Freshman Class
Brockport, NY The College at Brockport, State University of New York is preparing for a larger-than-anticipated freshman class this fall. The College expects to enroll approximately 1,125 students, making the fall 09 class the largest in the past 25 years. An additional 1,000 transfer students also are expected when fall classes resume.
The incoming freshman class also is projected to be one of the most academically talented, with a mean high school average of nearly 91 percent, with 50 percent falling between 8893; a mean SAT score approaching 1120, with 50 percent scoring between 10401180; and a mean rank in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class.
The incoming freshman and transfer students were selected from an application pool that increased by nearly 4 percent, to more than 12,000 applications.
Given the economic uncertainties we all faced this year, were very pleased with the profile of what looks to be an outstanding incoming class, said Bernard Valento, director of admissions at the College.
College statistics also indicate:
A 54 percent increase in downstate enrollments
A 66 percent increase in out-of-state enrollments
A 42 percent increase in students of color
A 12 percent increase in transfer students applications
The College at Brockport continues to attract top notch students not only from the local western NY area, but increasingly from other regions around the state and the Northeast, Valento added.
