Bill Evans Dance Company Announces 2009 – 2010 Rochester Season
After a very successful "test the waters" Rochester debut at the Hochstein Performance Hall last November 30, Bill Evans has planned a multi-event season for his company’s local performances for 2009- 2010. Bill Evans has been a guest artist in residence in the Department of Dance at The College at Brockport since August 2004. Most of the dancers in the current company have studied extensively with him in Brockport's MFA and BFA professional training programs. The November 2008 debut event was enthusiastically received by both media and attending audience, which gave the company a prolonged standing ovation.
The 2009 – 2010 Season will include four different productions:
1. EPHEMERA, a movement and sound event responding to "Picturing Archives" by photographer Doug Manchee, took place at the Visual Studies Workshop Siskind Gallery on May 1, 2009.
Thank you so much for your extraordinary talent and your efforts to design Friday night's performance. It was a wonderfully human piece to experience. Thanks to your insight and the hard work and grace of your company I feel our respective audiences here in the area will grow to appreciate more of the other's medium. -Tate Shaw, director of VSW.

…modern-rhythmic dance barrier-breaker Bill Evans is an experience of intimate and symphonic proportions….His breadth of experience in ballet, modern and tap dance has molded Evans into a uniquely lyrical-percussive artist. And while fusion might be an easy buzzword to slap onto his merging of styles, he more accurately melds each discipline into the other so that only movement—with no titles attached—remains. —Lucia Mauro, Chicago Tribune
4. BILL EVANS, 70!, April 10 and 11, 2010, Strasser Performance Studio, Hartwell Hall, The College at Brockport, Saturday, 7:30 pm, Sunday, 3:30 pm. Bill Evans and his professional and life partner for more than 25 years, Don Halquist, will perform an evening of contemporary dance and tap dance solos and duets celebrating the choreographer’s 70th birthday. Ticket information available in August 2009.
Evans knows how to entertain, and he does it in such a distinct and personal way that by evening’s end every fan should feel almost like a friend….He is quite simply a master of his craft, and if anything he gets better with age. He does it all and it is this kind of versatility that allows him to go it alone for an evening with such success. —Helen Forsberg, Salt Lake Tribune
