Stan Van Gundy ’81 leads team to NBA Finals

Press Release Photo Stan Van Gundy, highlighted, played four years for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport, NY – Did you know that Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy – whose team plays the Los Angeles Lakers in this year’s NBA Finals – is a 1981 graduate of The College at Brockport? Stan played four years of basketball for the Golden Eagles – his father, Bill, was the head coach – before embarking on his coaching career.

While a student at Brockport, Stan set the school record for consecutive free throws made with 53. He actually accomplished that over three seasons, and the record still stands. A strong student as well as an exceptional basketball player, Stan earned a bachelor’s degree in English and physical education and was honored with a SUNY Chancellor’s Award while at Brockport.

The College at Brockport wishes Stan and the Magic well in their quest for the organization’s first NBA title.
