“We are very proud of the academic success of our athletic department,” said College at Brockport Athletic Director Linda Case. “Our SUNY Chancellor Award Winners have set the standard for academic and athletic excellence at The College at Brockport. This prestigious award goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA among the SUNY schools in their sport. In addition to the outstanding GPA, these athletes also must have been selected to the All-Conference team based on athletic achievement. These athletes fit the Division III model of combining athletics with academics.”
Recipients of this year’s award include 72 student athletes from 28 campuses participating in 29 different sports across SUNY’s 64 campuses. With an average GPA of 3.69, these student-athletes have combined exceptional accomplishments in the classroom with superior performance in the athletic arena. They are nominated by campus representatives and are reviewed and approved by SUNY System Administration and athletic directors representing SUNY Division I programs, Region 3 and Region 15 of the NJCCA, the State University of New York Athletic Conference and from independent SUNY institutions participating in Division III programs. Each student receives a congratulatory letter as well as a plaque from SUNY.
“It is an honor for me to recognize these students not simply for their distinguished athletic accomplishments, but for their substantial academic achievements. These exemplary student athletes are winners on the field, and more importantly in SUNY classrooms across New York. My heartfelt congratulations go to all 72 State University scholar athletes,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher.
