The College at Brockport Listed in US News “Best in the North”

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport, State University of New York, was ranked 62nd among master’s universities in the Northern region in the just-released 2010 edition of US News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” guide. The College jumped 19 places since last year, when it was ranked 81st. The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, are available today (August 20) at, they also will be published in the September issue of the U.S.News & World Report magazine.

“It’s gratifying that The College at Brockport has been recognized again on the US News & World Report list. Brockport's rise through the US News ranking in recent years reflects our strong commitment to continuous improvement and to our focus on student success," said Anne E. Huot, PhD, The College at Brockport’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

According to US News the key measures of quality used in the ranking process included: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.

Since 1998, credentials for incoming Brockport students have demonstrated a steady rise… the average high school GPA has gone from 85.2 to 90.8, the average SAT composite score increased from 1025 to 1117, the percentage of students in SUNY’s top Tier 1 and 2 ranking grew from 30.6 percent to 79.0 percent. In addition, 57.2 percent of the incoming 2009 freshman class of approximately 1100 students rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class.
