Jazz Takes Some Twists and Turns on Brockport Campus

Press Release Photo The Steve Green Trio (l. to r.: Steve Greene, Bill Ribas and Dave Arenius)

Brockport, NY – As a fitting coda to the prior week’s Jazz Day at Brockport, the next installment of Music at Noon will feature the Steve Greene Trio. The concert takes place on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 12 pm at The College at Brockport’s Drake Memorial Library, and is free and open to the public.

Steve Greene is a gifted musician whose voice is his guitar. As a composer, he specializes in writing for modern dance troupes. He has worked with the critically acclaimed Garth Fagan Dance Company and, most recently, with the Boston Dance Collective. He teaches, writes and performs regularly around Rochester and western New York. What stands out the most about his playing though, is not just his skill on the instrument, but his rich, warm melodic tone. “I think a lot of true musical elements are found in very basic things,” says Greene. “I’ve spent whole summers practicing; playing these simple bass riffs. Just like two note ideas. You can find a lot of music in the very basic things, like the exploration of one note and its overtones.”

Greene will be joined by Bill Ribas on guitar and Dave Arenius on bass when they play a selection of jazz standards and swing which will include selections from Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Cole Porter. “They’re standards, sure, but we like to take some interesting twists and turns with them,” promises Greene.

Parking for off-campus visitors is available in Lot V, across the street from the Library, on New Campus Drive. Parking permits are available for $2 at the Raye H. Conrad Welcome Center, at the corner of New Campus and Commencement Drives. Please call (585) 395-ARTS for additional information.
