Student Natalie Pilakouta, left, and College Council Chair Scott Turner
Natalie Pilakouta, a senior at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, received the ACT for Excellence Scholarship, a state-wide honor-bestowed by the Association of Council Members and College Trustees.
Pilakouta, an international student from Cyprus, came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar at the age of 16. Pilakouta, who will graduate in May, is majoring in environmental science with a concentration in terrestrial ecology and has a second major in biological sciences. She also minors in chemistry and earth sciences. Pilakouta maintains a 4.0 GPA and is on the College’s Dean’s List.
The ACT for Excellence is not Pilakouta’s first award; she has earned the Sigma Xi Award in Undergraduate Research, the Brockport College Memorial Scholarship, and was noted in Who’s Who Among American Universities.
Pilakouta is committed to giving back to her community. She is the co-president of the Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society; a peer mentor for incoming freshmen Honor students, serving as a role model as they transition from high school to college; and tutors chemistry students in the College’s Student Learning Center.
