Insightful Book on the Baby Boomer Generation
College at Brockport Recreation and Leisure Studies Faculty Look at How Boomers Spend Their Leisure Time
Brockport, NY- Assistant Professor of Recreation and Leisure Studies at The College at Brockport Lynda J. Sperazza recently published her insightful book, Leisure Programming for Baby Boomers, co-authored with Anne M. Rothschadl, PhD, and Jodi L. Rudick. The book provides recreation and leisure professionals with information they’ll need to make important programming decisions for “The Boomers.”
The core of Sperazza’s research focuses on the baby boomers in terms of leisure values and how to apply the philosophy behind programming for generational leisure activities. The authors also incorporate their expertise in research, programming, and marketing to offer further insight into the lifestyle and value choices of the baby boomers. This guide informs professionals on how to consider these generational values to create effective marketing messages and plan appropriate programming.
Sperazza holds a bachelor of arts in recreation and leisure studies from Washington State University, a master of arts in organizational management from the University of Phoenix, and a PhD in education from the University of Idaho. At The College at Brockport’s Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, she assumes major teaching responsibilities in the area of recreation management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Moreover, Sperazza is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional with more than 12 years field experience as a recreation programmer and manager in various municipal and military recreation settings.
Sperazza is an active member of the greater Brockport community, serving for the past three years as festival coordinator of the village/college collaboration that sponsored the popular Max’s Mardi Gras, which grew out of a Make a Wish dream-come-true request. On campus, she serves as the Student Recreation Club advisor, department graduate coordinator, and is the campus Circle K Club student group advisor.
