Brockport, N.Y. – Fiction writer Michael Parker will be the final guest in the fall Writers Forum Lecture Series, at 8 pm, Wednesday, November 18, in the New York Room, Cooper Hall.
He is the author of Hello Down There (1993), a New York TimesNotable Book selection and a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway prize. He also is the author of Towns Without Rivers (2001), If You Want Me to Stay (2005) and Don’t Make Me Stop Now (2007).
His stories have appeared in Oxford American, The Georgia Review and Five Points. In addition, he is a past recipient of the North Carolina Award, the Goodheart Prize, the Sir Walter Raleigh Award and fellowships from the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. He also is a member of the MFA Writing Program faculty at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Parker is a native of Clinton, NC and received his BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MFA from the University of Virginia.
Founded in 1967, the Brockport Writers Forum is recognized as one of this country’s outstanding reading series. Its guests have included many distinguished poets, writers and critics. In addition to its program of readings, the Writers Forum sponsors residencies, workshops, symposia and festivals – all dedicated to the art of writing.
